VoIP, Skype, Broadband Telephone and iPhone are all new terms that most of today's average Jo's have barley heard of, but soon will be commonly used. What ever happened to the PSTN, or older still, when you had to be connected by an operator to make a call? Whats more, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services are inexpensive to set up (especially when bundled with a Broadband Plan) and can save you lots of $$ with their cheaper rates that are available while offering a high quality service.
Although availability of such services is still fairly limited, expect a popular rise in the next couple of years that will replace your standard telephone services..... Just like Broadband ADSL did with Dial-up Internet, VoIP telephony will do to the conventional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).
