Hello everyone,
I started a plan with Dodo back in March of this year. I got a phone and internet bundle and paid extra for the initial connection fee so that I wasn't tied to a contract. To start with I opted for their cheapest plan since I didn't have a job at the time but needed an internet connection for my job search. This plan was 256Kbps with 150Mb monthly data usage allowance. As you can imagine, this was frustratingly slow but I stuck with it for the first couple of months.
When I got a job, I decided to upgrade to a better plan and after speaking to Dodo decided to go for their 'Ultra Fast' 8Mbps with 20Mb usage allowance. However, after this upgrade was activated I find that I am rather disappointed with the service. It really isn't that fast. At very best I am getting 1.5Mbps download (and about 300kbps upload) - I have used several online speed testers to test and confirm this. I called Dodo customer support who then referred me to their tech support. They asked me to power cycle/restart all equipment and conducted a short 'test', which just involved downloading a file from their website and me telling them what speed it was showing up on the screen. After doing this they then told me that this was in their 'acceptable limits' for this speed.
I am just wondering if anybody else has had the same issue? Is it just Dodo who are fobbing me off or do other ISPs do the same? I realise that if I subscribe to an 8Mbps service I won't actually get that exact speed (maybe I should get 6 or 7Mb?) but I don't think that 1.5Mb is acceptable. If I am paying for an 8Mbps service but getting less than a quarter of this then why should I pay full price for it? Is it worth me shopping around for another ISP or will I find the same problem with all of them?
I am originally from the UK (I've only been here in Aus for 6 months) and if I had got the same problem back there I would switch ISPs where there seemed to be a better choice and service.
Any comments/suggestions welcome!
cheers,
Jimmy
